The Association of Statistics Students (HIMADATA) from the Vocational Faculty at ITS (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember) Introduces Applied Statistics Degree to High School Students through the Olfaction 2022 Event
Olfaction 2022 is an annual event organized by the Association of Applied Business Statistics Students (HIMADATA). Through the Olfaction 2022 event, HIMADATA held an Olympiad for all high school students on the subject of statistics. The Vice Chair of the Olfaction 2022 Committee, Falizha Ethika Putri, explained that this Olympiad challenges high school students to face various statistical problems. Olfaction 2022 is packaged in a game system in each round, “The hope is that the participants can enjoy and be enthusiastic in answering the challenges we present,” she added.

These Business Statistics students explained that the Olfaction event was attended by 105 teams, each consisting of two people. This event has several stages: the preliminary round, the semifinal, and the final. In the preliminary round, there were 100 questions covering basic mathematics, statistics, and data analysis. In the semifinal round, 12 teams were selected to compete in solving problems in the form of games, including the Question Market. Then, 6 teams were selected for the final stage.

After entering the Final round, participants had to process raw data available and present it in the form of an infographic. The winner of the Olfaction event was the Madrasah Bertaraf International (MBI) Ammanatul Ummah Pacet team. Through a series of activities until Sunday, November 20, 2022, Falizha and the team hope that participants can apply the statistics knowledge they have gained during this Olympiad and also get a free pass.
