On April 18, 2024, students from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology in Surabaya were given a special opportunity to learn a lot about Indonesia’s cement industry through a guest lecture titled “Unlo

cking Efficiency: The Role of Warehouse and Logistics Applications in SIG.” This event was organized at the Sinar Mas Auditorium by the Logistics and Supply Chain Management Laboratory, a project that helps students in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering gain a practical understanding of industry trends and innovations.

The guest lecturer was Ary Tri Wibowo, M.T., CSCM, an experienced professional in supply chain and logistics development currently working at the Multinational Building Solution Company, PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG). SIG, a cement company established in 1957, has been a key player in the construction industry in Indonesia. With its history, SIG has become a symbol of quality and reliability in providing high-quality

cement products for construction projects nationwide.

Ary Tri Wibowo, who has been involved in various aspects of supply chain and logistics management at SIG since 2014, brought extensive knowledge about the challenges and potentials of the Indonesian cement industry. In his guest lecture, he not only provided insights into the role of warehouse and logistics applications in improving SIG’s operational efficiency but also gave the audience a closer look at the company’s history.

As part of his presentation, Ary Tri Wibowo discussed several major challenges facing the cement industry today, such as supply and demand imbalances, the emergence of new competitors, energy cost fluctuations, and changes in government regulations. He emphasized the need for innovation in supply chain and logistics management to address these challenges, especially through the adoption of digital technology.

In the logistics context, Ary Tri Wibowo highlighted the importance of efficiency in distribution processes and warehouse management. With SIG serving 572 districts across Indonesia with over 3000 distribution and delivery routes and delivering 42 million tons of cement per year, distribution complexity is one of the company’s main challenges. However, with the implementation of digital applications such as SAP, CSMS, and TMS, SIG has been able to improve delivery timeliness, order fulfillment, and reduce distribution costs.

Additionally, Ary Tri Wibowo also discussed the vital role of warehouse and logistics applications in addressing specific challenges faced by SIG, such as fuel price fluctuations, order fulfillment accuracy, and limited resource constraints. Through the application of digital technology, SIG can optimize its logistics operations and improve overall efficiency.

With this guest lecture, students from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering not only gained deep insights into the role of warehouse and logistics applications in improving operational efficiency but also explored future challenges for PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG). With a better understanding of the company’s evolution and industry trends, students are expected to become agents of change, bringing innovation and progress to the cement industry in the future.
