Mojokerto, December 2, 2024 The Polyurethane Bone Model Research Team from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya visited Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Hospital in Mojokerto on Monday (2/12). This visit aimed to introduce their innovative artificial bone model developed using polyurethane material and explore potential collaborations in the medical field, particularly in education and research.
During the visit, the ITS research team presented their latest findings on artificial bone models designed as alternative tools for medical training. The model, made from polyurethane, mimics the characteristics of human bones in terms of strength, flexibility, and texture. With this innovation, the polyurethane-based bone model is expected to support medical education, especially in surgical training and medical simulations.

The event began with an interactive discussion between the ITS Research Team and medical staff from Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Hospital. The ITS team showcased various applications of the artificial bone model and conducted a demonstration to highlight the material’s accuracy and durability when used in surgical simulations.
“Polyurethane possesses mechanical properties that make it highly suitable as a bone model for both simulation and testing medical equipment. We hope this innovation can contribute to enhancing the quality of medical education and training in Indonesia,” said the Head of the Research Team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sumarno, M.Eng, during the presentation.
Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Hospital warmly welcomed the visit. The hospital’s deputy director stated that the polyurethane-based artificial bone model has significant potential to support medical education and the development of medical technology within the hospital.
“We are very interested in this innovation. Not only does it support the training of medical personnel, but it also improves the effectiveness and efficiency of simulations in our hospital,” said one of the orthopedic doctors.
As a follow-up, both parties agreed to explore deeper collaboration opportunities, including the procurement of artificial bone models for training, joint research, and the development of medical devices based on polyurethane materials.
This visit marks an initial step in building synergy between academia and the medical field to create innovative solutions for education and healthcare services. With this spirit of collaboration, ITS and Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Hospital are optimistic that the polyurethane-based bone model can make a tangible contribution to the advancement of medical technology in Indonesia.
