MALANG, November 23, 2024 – The Polyurethane Team from the Material Technology Laboratory, Chemical Engineering Department, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya, visited Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang. This visit aimed to obtain reviews of an innovative product in the form of a bone model made from polyurethane. This product is a flagship research result to support orthopedic surgery training.
The meeting took place in the Café Kahuripan meeting room to ensure a comfortable discussion. The ITS team met with orthopedic specialists, namely Dr. Dommy, Dr. Mirza, and Dr. Nurul, who played a crucial role in providing technical feedback on this product. Additionally, 11 intern doctors from the PPDS Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FK UB), were involved in filling out product evaluation questionnaires during their practice break.
The questionnaire covered various aspects, such as the shape and proportion of the bone, weight, density, price, and suggestions for improvement. The results showed that the majority of respondents gave positive reviews for this bone model. Dr. Dommy, an orthopedic specialist, stated that this product is very helpful in surgical training simulations before actual operations. However, he also suggested that the mass of the bone model be increased to more closely resemble human bones.
“This bone model is very beneficial for us, especially in training surgical techniques more safely and precisely. We hope further development can improve the details to be more realistic,” said Dr. Dommy.
The ITS Polyurethane Team appreciated the positive feedback and constructive suggestions from the doctors. These inputs will serve as a foundation to improve the product quality to better meet medical needs.
The event concluded with a group photo session as a form of documentation of togetherness, and a closing remark by Dr. Dommy, who expressed his hope for continued collaboration between the ITS research team and the medical field. “Hopefully, in the future, we can work more closely together in creating innovations that benefit the healthcare sector,” concluded Dr. Dommy.
This visit marks a significant step forward in the development of medical products based on material technology, as well as strengthening the synergy between academics and medical practitioners for the advancement of healthcare services in Indonesia.
