In line with population growth and the rapid development of science and technology, environmental problems are becoming increasingly complex, for example the need for drinking water, water pollution, air pollution, sea pollution, garbage, industrial waste, domestic waste, Hazardous and Toxic Materials waste, and so on. To handle environmental problems, professional personnel are needed who have broad environmental insight and master environmental management technology. In 1983, ITS opened a Strata-1 Sanitation Engineering study program which was then developed into the Environmental Engineering Department which was inaugurated by the Director General of Higher Education in 1996. The implementation of education is given in the form of lectures, training, field practicums, research training, and final assignments. The science studied in the Environmental Engineering Department is science related to the field of Environmental Management and Engineering. For example, Drinking Water Supply and Processing Technology, Wastewater Distribution and Processing, Hazardous and Toxic Waste Management (B3), Waste Management, Environmental Pollution, Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL).
