Puncu is one of the villages in Puncu District, Kediri Regency, East Java. Located in a mountainous area, Puncu village has a lot of potential including rice fields, waterfalls, and abundant water sources that continue to flow throughout the year. However, this abundant water source has not been fully utilized. In fact, good management of water resources owned can provide many benefits for local residents, for example used for drinking water needs or sources of electricity that are efficient and environmentally friendly. This of course can be a solution to local residents’ problems related to electricity needs. The Puncu Village environment can take advantage of the flow of water as a source of turbine propulsion that can produce electrical energy to illuminate settlements.
Puncu village has several springs from Mount Kelud which have great potential to be used as a micro hydro power plant (PLTMH). Based on discussions with local residents, Puncu Village has 4 rivers with a discharge of about 0.9 m3/s each with an average flow velocity of 0.5 m/s. From this fact, it can be concluded that Puncu Village is actually capable of producing a total of 800 W of electricity independently. Seeing the potential of this abundant water source, this community service activity is focused on the PLTMH technology installation program to be able to produce non-PLN electrical energy supplies for residential lighting and the PLTMH installation is expected to be the first step so that Puncu Village can become a pilot village as a smart village. technology savvy in East Java Province.
The realization of the output of the Pengabdian Masyarakat (Abdimas) begins with the turbine design process that is adapted to the characteristics of the flow and water discharge at the location. The flow from the water source is conditioned so that the water discharge and water fall height is obtained, then the water produced is channeled through the turbine conductor channel. The water turbine will spin after getting hit and water pressure. Turbine rotation is used to turn a generator that will produce electrical voltage. Between the turbine and the generator, a pulley and fanbelt are installed to increase the torque and rpm of the generator. The electricity generated will be sent and distributed to consumers and local residents via distribution cables.
The PLTMH technology installation program in Puncu Village, Kediri Regency has been implemented, but the electricity generated is only limited and capable of distributing electricity for street lighting, which is as many as ten PJUs with each lamp having a power of 10 Watts. So that for the following year there is a proposed plan, namely a program for adding turbines considering that there are still several sources of water flow that can be utilized.
