Corn Cob Chopping Machine For Briquette Raw Material

2020

Bolo Village is a fertile village located in Ujung Pangkah District, Gresik District. This village has fertile red soil and is suitable for planting various kinds of vegetables and fruits with superior products. The famous agricultural product is corn. When the harvest season arrives, corn farming will be abundant. The farmers process and trade the corn harvested only the corn kernels to be sold to middlemen by using the existing corn sheller machine. Which after this process the corn will leave waste in the form of corncobs that have accumulated. Sometimes corncob waste is used as animal feed or as fuel for smoked fish. However, because the amount is very large, it is left alone which causes the corncob waste to become moist and moldy. This will damage the nutritional quality if consumed by livestock and can also damage the quality of combustion.
To solve the problem of corn cobs that are piling up and have not been used optimally, a technology is needed that can support the use value of corn cobs so that it can be useful for the welfare of the people. Therefore, the ITS ABMAS Team designed a corn cob chopping machine that can be used to chop corn cobs into smaller pieces so that they can be processed into briquette raw materials as an alternative fuel or for animal feed. In its implementation, the ITS ABMAS TEAM was assisted by a team from the University of Qomaruddin Gresik and ITS KKN students. This machine has 6 parts, namely casing, frame, drive engine, blade, shaft, and filter.
The prototype of the corncob chopping machine is made with a large capacity, the advantage of which is that this machine is easy to move. From the test results, it can be seen that the average speed of the machine in chopping 5 kg of corncobs is 2 minutes 38 seconds or 120 kg/hour when using a large sieve. The next plan that will be carried out is to be further refined by adding a knife to chop corn cobs so that the capacity increases.
