The Center for Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change Studies (MKPI Study Center) under the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) plays a vital role in addressing the major challenges faced by Indonesia in relation to disasters and climate change. As an archipelagic country vulnerable to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and increasingly extreme climate change, Indonesia needs a comprehensive and scientific approach to reduce the adverse effects of these disasters.
The MKPI Study Center emphasizes its primary focus on developing innovative solutions based on multidisciplinary research, ranging from earth sciences, civil engineering, information technology, to public policy. This effort is in line with ITS’s 2020-2030 vision, which is committed to actively developing science and technology, particularly in the fields of marine science, the environment, housing, energy, and environmentally-friendly information and communication technology. This vision is realized through international research oriented towards real solutions to environmental and disaster issues.
